Anxiety Disorders

When the alarm system never turns off.

What is it, really?

Anxiety disorders include generalised anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety and others. The brain threat-detection system is activated too easily or too persistently. This is not overcaution or weakness. It is a neurological pattern.

What you can do right now

  • Do not tell them to just relax or calm down
  • Help identify triggers without reinforcing avoidance
  • Learn grounding techniques you can use together
  • Be predictable and consistent
  • Encourage treatment: anxiety disorders respond very well to therapy
